Addressing the timing of the allegations, which emerged on the eve of an election where he is considered a front-runner, Eric Swalwell said he is not without personal flaws.
Congressman Eric Swalwell has released a one-minute video addressing recent allegations made against him, hours after being accused of rape.
In the video, he directly denied the claims, stating: "I thought it was important you see and hear from me directly. These allegations of sexual assault are flat false", adding, "They did not happen. They have never happened."

He stated that he is not "perfect or a saint" and admitted to making "mistake in judgement", adding: "Those mistake are between me and my wife. And to her, I apologize deeply for putting her in this position."
He also extended an apology to supporters who may feel uncertain, saying: "I think you know who I am."
According to reports previously published by TMZ, political figures including Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff have reportedly called for Swalwell to withdraw from the California governor's race.
The development follows a CNN report citing an anonymous former staffer who alleged an incident in 2024 after a night out at a bar with Swalwell.
The accuser claimed she blacked out during the evening and later recalled a brief moment involving Swalwell, alleging she tried to push him away. These claims have not been independently verified.
Swalwell has firmly denied all allegations. However, he has since canceled a scheduled town hall event that was set for the same day.
