Shravasti, a historically significant city known for its connection to Buddhism, is set to see a major addition to its tourism landscape with the upcoming completion of Buddhavanam Park. The park, under development with the goal of promoting sustainable tourism, is expected to be ready by the end of June this year. Once finished, it is anticipated to attract both national and international tourists and provide a comprehensive experience of the city’s Buddhist heritage.

Tourists from countries such as Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, China, and Japan frequently visit Shravasti, making it an important center for Buddhist cultural and religious tourism. The development of Buddhavanam Park is designed to enhance the appeal of the region while providing structured facilities for visitors.

Key structures within the park are approaching completion, including eight RCC foundations related to the ‘Dharma Chakra’ and the main mural wall. Brickwork for the central pathway and step gallery is nearly finished, giving a clear layout to the park’s design. Alongside structural work, efforts are underway to beautify surrounding streets with stone cladding, special lamp posts, cable trenches, and stone bollards, improving both aesthetics and visitor convenience.

An Interpretation Centre is also being constructed within the park to provide detailed information about the historical and religious significance of Shravasti and Buddhism. The centre’s column casting is in progress and expected to be completed soon. Additionally, facilities for visitors, including a dormitory and parking spaces, are being finalized. Two-wheeler parking is already operational, and construction for four-wheeler parking is ongoing. Interior finishing, such as plastering and flooring in the dormitory, is in its final stages.

Once completed, Buddhavanam Park is likely to enhance the tourism experience by providing organized, informative, and visually appealing spaces for visitors. The project also has the potential to contribute to the local economy through increased tourism activity and related services. With its combination of cultural education, infrastructure, and scenic landscaping, the park aims to position Shravasti as a significant destination for Buddhist and international tourism.
