Spotify spent May acting like it was on a feature-dropping marathon, quietly rolling out seven major updates that could completely change how people use the app. While everyone was busy replaying the same three songs all month, Spotify was adding everything from AI-powered tools to exclusive concert ticket perks.

Your Spotify history just got exposed

The first big addition was Your Party of the Year(s), which feels like Spotify Wrapped after drinking five energy drinks. Instead of looking back at a single year, the feature digs through your entire Spotify history.

Users can now see when they joined the platform, discover the first song they ever streamed, check how many unique tracks they have listened to over the years and find out which artist has dominated their listening habits the most.

Playlist organisation finally gets an upgrade

Spotify also gave its playlist and queue system a much-needed glow-up.

Users can now rearrange tracks in their queue more easily, make bulk edits to playlists, sort playlists into folders and even continue downloads in the background. It is the kind of update that sounds boring until you realise how much time it saves.

Concert tickets could soon become a reward

One of the most exciting announcements is Spotify Reserved.

The upcoming feature will give dedicated fans priority access to concert tickets based on their listening habits. In other words, your obsessive streaming sessions might finally pay off. The programme is expected to begin in the United States later this year.

Spotify is going all-in on AI

Spotify also unveiled Studio by Spotify Labs, a new desktop application that uses artificial intelligence to create personalised podcasts, playlists and audio briefings.

The company stated that the tool can help research topics, organise information and assist users with various tasks when permission is granted.

AI song covers are coming too

As if that was not enough AI for one month, Spotify is also preparing a feature that will allow users to create fan-made song covers and remixes.

The project comes through a partnership with Universal Music Group and is expected to become a paid add-on for Premium subscribers.

Audiobooks are getting more attention

Audiobook fans have not been forgotten either.

Spotify introduced new discovery tools designed to help listeners find their next title, alongside additional paid options that offer more listening hours across different subscription plans.

Podcast sharing just got way more fun

Finally, Spotify has added clipping tools for podcasts.

Listeners can now select specific moments from episodes, save them to a dedicated folder and share them across social media or directly with friends. Expect podcast arguments and recommendations to become much harder to escape.

For a platform that supposedly just streams music, Spotify had an incredibly busy month. Whether these features become game-changers or disappear into the app's endless menus remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Spotify is trying very hard to become much more than a music player.
