Texas-based software engineer Aman Gottumukkala has announced that he is joining xAI, the artificial intelligence firm launched by Elon Musk. Gottumukkala is known in the developer community for creating Firebender, a coding tool built specifically for Android developers.

The Indian-origin engineer developed Firebender as an AI coding assistant that helps developers manage and write code more efficiently. Despite being built by a team of only three people, the startup scaled to generate millions in revenue. Gottumukkala confirmed his move to xAI through a social media post, where he also spoke about working on advanced coding AI systems and collaborating with teams connected to SpaceX.

Gottumukkala shared the news of his new role through a post on X. In the update, he said he will work on building advanced coding AI technologies.

In his post, he wrote:

“I’m joining @SpaceX and @xai to build the best coding AI. For the last couple of years, I founded the most widely used coding agent for Android, scaling it to millions in revenue with a team of 3.”

He also referred to the rapid progress being seen in artificial intelligence systems. According to his post, the capabilities of AI models are increasing quickly, and the technology is approaching what he described as “recursive superintelligence.”

He added that solving such challenges will require significant resources and infrastructure. In the same message, Gottumukkala described xAI as a place that combines computing power, talent and work related to physical intelligence and space.

He also invited others interested in working on major technology challenges to reach out, saying the team is focused on executing on important problems.

Before joining xAI, Gottumukkala built Firebender, a software product designed to support Android developers. The tool functions as an AI coding assistant that helps programmers write, organise and manage code more efficiently.

Firebender operates directly within commonly used development environments such as Android Studio and JetBrains integrated development environments. By working within these platforms, the tool allows developers to automate repetitive tasks and complete coding work more quickly.

The product quickly gained attention within the developer community. Engineering teams began adopting it to improve productivity and reduce the time spent on routine coding processes.

Another point that drew attention was the small team behind the product. Firebender reportedly generated millions in revenue while being developed and maintained by only three people.

With his move to xAI, Gottumukkala is now part of a larger group of engineers working on the next generation of artificial intelligence technologies.

Gottumukkala studied computer science at Texas A&M University, where he completed his bachelor’s degree between 2017 and 2021. Before attending the university, he studied at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he also worked as a software engineer at Paradigm before launching Firebender. At Paradigm, he worked on technical projects connected to the technology and cryptocurrency ecosystem.

He was also selected as a KP Fellow through the Kleiner Perkins Fellowship programme. The fellowship is known for connecting promising engineers and founders with venture capital firms in Silicon Valley. Many founders of technology startups have emerged from this programme.
