Who was Jordan Scott? Indiana college basketball player dies in car crash ahead of her NCAA Division I as college community mourns the loss

University of Evansville basketball player Jordan Scott passed away at the age of only 19 after a single-vehicle crash in Warrick County, Indiana on Sunday September 6, 2026.

The sophomore guard who recently transferred to Evansville to play alongside her younger sister, Jayden was just weeks away from beginning her first season at the NCAA Division I level. The crash occurred at approximately at 12:42 am on State Road 62 near Franz Road close to Boonville in rural Warrick County. She was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.


According to the details released by the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office, Scott had driven a friend home earlier that night and was returning alone when the crash occurred. She was driving through an unfamiliar section of State Road 62 - a stretch of roadways authorities described as particularly curvy.

A witness reportedly described that Scott’s vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve before it left the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility pole and then became airborne and then flipped before coming to rest on its side in a nearby tree line. The vehicle sustained severe damage in the collision while authorities are still investigating the circumstances behind the crash. They believe the crash happened due to a speeding factor particularly as Scott encountered the sharp bend on an unfamiliar unlit section of the road.

The fatal accident occurred roughly 20 miles from the University of Evansville campus which abruptly ended the life of a promising basketball career of a young athlete who had recently reached a significant milestone in her life.


Scott was a 5’6” point guard from Newburgh, Indiana who was famous for her speed, court vision, playmaking ability and defensive instincts. She graduated from Castle High school in 2025 after four years as a varsity player. During the final three seasons, she averaged double-figure scoring and established herself as one of the standout players in the Southern Indiana basketball scene.

Her high school resume included two First Team All-Southern Indiana Athletic Conference selections, a First team All-Metro honour and two All-State Honourable Mention selections.

Her journey in Wabash College during the 2025-26 season includes her appearance in 27 games where she averaged 12.5 points per game, ranking third on the team. She recorded three 20-point performances and scored in double figures 18 times. She was a valuable guard for the team and eventually made her move to the Division I level.

In June 2026, she transferred to University of Evansville and joined the Purple Aces women’s basketball program as a sophomore to play alongside her sister, Jayden. But before the sisters could share the court together, Jordan’s life was tragically cut short before an official game of the Purple Aces.


Evansville athletics expressed deep grief following her death with Vice President for Athletics Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried emphasising the impact of the loss on the university community and the importance of supporting Jayden and the Scott family. They also released an official statement on social media to mourn her death.

Women’s basketball head coach Ben Wierzba also remembered Scott’s presence and the bond that had developed within the team during the months leading into the season. Wabash Valley College's women’s basketball program also paid tribute to its former player remembering her time there.

Jordan Scott was a young guard whose career was just beginning but instead the 19-year-old left behind a grieving family along with a possible basketball legacy.
