Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle broke box office records around the world

Created by Koyoharu Gotouge, Demon Slayer ended its manga run in 2020 after becoming one of the best-selling manga series in history. Studio ufotable then turned the franchise into a global anime phenomenon with its stunning animation, emotional storytelling, and blockbuster theatrical releases.

Instead of adapting the final Infinity Castle arc as another television season, ufotable announced that it would be released as a trilogy of films. The decision allowed the studio to give the manga's biggest battles a much larger cinematic scale while maintaining the visual quality the series is known for.

The gamble paid off spectacularly. Released in Japan on July 18, 2025, Infinity Castle opened to record-breaking numbers, earning over ¥7.3 billion (around US$49 million) in its first four days alone. It became the fastest film in Japanese box office history to cross ¥10 billion, doing so in just eight days, and eventually grossed more than ¥35 billion (over US$235 million) in Japan. The film also crossed US$320 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing anime films ever and one of the biggest Japanese movie releases of all time.

The first movie focuses on several major fights while also giving more depth to key characters, including Giyu Tomioka, Sanemi Shinazugawa and other Hashira. Alongside the breathtaking action, the film delivers emotional moments that set the stage for the final chapters of the story.

Fans should not miss the movie

Running for around 155 minutes, Infinity Castle delivers some of the most visually ambitious animation ufotable has ever produced. From the constantly changing architecture of the castle to the beautifully choreographed sword fights, nearly every sequence feels designed for the big screen.

The soundtrack further elevates the experience, with powerful music accompanying the emotional and action heavy moments. Fans and critics alike have praised the film for remaining faithful to the manga while expanding several scenes through cinematic storytelling.

While the first movie marks the beginning of Demon Slayer's final battle, the story is far from over. The remaining two films will complete the Infinity Castle storyline and bring Tanjiro's journey to its conclusion. Part two is currently expected to release in 2027, while the final chapter is likely to arrive around 2029, although official release dates have not yet been announced.
