Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc crashes out early at Monza after huge Parabolica impact following battle with teammate Lewis Hamilton in the Italian GP

F1 driver Charles Leclerc’s home race ended in heartbreaking fashion at the 2026 Italian Grand Prix after the Ferrari driver suffered a huge high-speed crash at Monza’s famous Parabolica corner. The incident came just two laps into the race and immediately brought out the red flag, leaving the Tifosi stunned.


Ultimately, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli made history by winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, becoming the first Italian to win his home race since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966. Starting 19th, the 20-year-old stormed through the field, overtook teammate George Russell on Lap 50, and secured victory ahead of Russell and Max Verstappen.

The Ferrari driver started the race from third on the grid and was involved in an aggressive opening lap. Leclerc battled his teammate Lewis Hamilton and pushed him wide with Hamilton falling to eighth. But the drama happened a few moments later.

As Leclerc defended fourth place from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri at the end of the second lap, the Ferrari approached the fast Parabolica corner. Leclerc ran slightly onto the green-painted area and the white line at the edge of the edge. The rear suddenly snapped out, as he was unable to recover which spun across the circuit and shot into the gravel trap before slamming heavily into the outside tyre barriers.


The impact was severe enough to destroy much of the front end of Leclerc’s Ferrari. Race control initially deployed the Safety car, but the severity of the crash meant a full red flag was quickly necessary. All the remaining cars were sent back to the pit lane as marshals worked to remove the wrecked Ferrari.

As fans show concerns, it is to be noted that Leclerc climbed out of the heavily damaged Ferrari under his own power and walked away from the crash safe.

He was officially classified as a DNF after completing just two laps, turning what had been a promising home race into a nightmare for Ferrari.

The fans showed extreme concern about how their Ferrari driver was after the crash. A user noted the delay of the medical team mentioning, “50G impact at 230 km/h with the car's medial light triggered, and yet doctors came to Leclerc after 5 minutes” calling it the “Insane failure of the system.”

But Lewis Hamilton fans did not let the battle slide as they now started calling him “overrated of all time.” One user aggressively wrote, “So Leclerc took Hamilton off the track after just two corners, dropping him to 10th place, then got overtaken by everyone and retired after 2 laps. Masterpiece Ferrari, phenomenon Charles at Monza.”


Others simply remembered that this is not the first time, highlighting, “Exactly 6 years after Charles Leclerc crashed at the Parabolica, the Ferrari Driver has crashed in the same spot.”

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli has created history at the Italian Grand Prix, becoming the first Italian driver in 60 years to win his home race since Ludovico Scarfiotti’s triumph in 1966.

The 20-year-old produced a remarkable comeback at Monza after starting the race from 19th on the grid. Despite a difficult start, Antonelli steadily worked his way through the field and found himself battling for the lead in the closing stages.

Antonelli spent much of the second half of the race chasing down his Mercedes teammate George Russell before making the decisive move on Lap 50 of 53 to take the lead and secure a historic victory in front of his home crowd.

Russell crossed the finish line in second, completing a memorable one-two for Mercedes, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen rounded out the podium in third. Antonelli’s victory marks a landmark moment for Italian motorsport and a stunning turnaround from 19th on the grid to the top step of the podium at Monza.

For the Ferrari fans unfortunately, the biggest talking points at Monza was Leclerc’s Parabolica crash, reminding again how unforgiving Formula 1’s high-speed corners can be.
