Who are the new Dexter: Resurrection serial killers? Season 2’s first look teases the Five Borough Killer and Sleepy-Eyed Strangler

Dexter: Resurrection is the latest chapter in the long-running story of Dexter Morgan, the blood-spatter analyst who moonlights as a killer of killers. The series was developed and is run by Clyde Phillips, who steered the original Dexter through its early years and came back for New Blood. It continues from that 2021 revival.

Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter. Jack Alcott is back as his son Harrison. Uma Thurman reprises Charley. James Remar is still the voice in Dexter’s head as Harry. Season 1 also brought in Kadia Saraf and Dominic Fumusa as NYPD detectives Claudette Wallace and Melvin Oliva, plus Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara.


Season 2 adds Dan Stevens, Gabriel Luna, Brian Cox, Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson, with Desmond Harrington now a regular as Joey Quinn and Krysten Ritter returning as Mia LaPierre. The first season arrived on 11 July 2025 with ten episodes and opened to 3.1 million global viewers in its first three days.

Paramount+ renewed it that October. Season 2 premieres Friday 30 October 2026, twenty years after the original series first aired. A new teaser dropped this week, timed with first-look photos of the two killers now dominating the conversation.

The new images are not a full trailer dump. They are stills. Stevens as the Five Borough Killer. Luna standing with Hall as the Sleepy-Eyed Strangler. Dexter in the city he now calls home. Ritter back in frame with Hall, which is the other surprise the photos are selling.

Phillips has been talking around the pictures rather than over-explaining them. Season 2 picks up three years after Season 1. Harrison is 21 and in an NYPD uniform. Dexter is older in a way the show is not being cute about. He needs glasses because he cannot read his phone. The teaser leans into that. Dexter sits through an eye exam. Words flash up. He is back. He is sharper than ever. Then we see knives. It is on the nose, and it works.


The first look also puts Harrison next to Nona Parker Johnson’s Fiona Mixon, a homicide training officer and the daughter of Bokeem Woodbine’s Captain Mixon. Quinn is in New York now. Charley is back in Dexter’s orbit after leaving the city at the end of last season. Harry is still hovering. None of that is hidden. The photos are telling you the personal life is getting louder at the same time the body count is.

What the stills do not do is spell out who dies, who gets caught, or how these new killers cross Dexter’s path. They just plant two names in your head and let them sit there.

Dan Stevens plays the Five Borough Killer, identified in the new first-look material as Lucas Stark. Earlier casting reports used Owen Stark. Either way, the moniker is the part that matters.

His method is public. He kills in each of New York’s five boroughs and uses that pattern to frighten the whole city. Phillips has compared the effect to a midlife crisis colliding with Dexter’s oldest itch. Dexter has always wanted a kind of recognition, even if he pretends otherwise. Stark gets that recognition immediately. One body in, and the city is already talking. That, Phillips said, drives Dexter crazy, because nobody knows who he is.


The template is familiar on purpose. The character taunts police with phone calls and then follows through. The Zodiac comparison has been sitting in the official description since Stevens was cast in April. It is not subtle. A killer who treats New York like a board and dares the cops to keep up.

Stevens is a series regular, which tells you this is not a one-episode scare. He has played charming men who turn, and he has played outright monsters. Here the idea seems to be someone who can walk through the city without looking like the problem. That is usually how these Dexter antagonists work best. The Trinity Killer did not announce himself at breakfast. Stark is being built as the younger threat. Dexter is the man with glasses. Stark is the one making headlines.

There is also a practical tension underneath the mythology. Harrison is now police. Wallace is still on the New York Ripper. The Five Borough Killer is the kind of case that swallows a department. If Dexter hunts him, he is hunting inside his son’s workplace. That is the part that should make longtime viewers sit forward.

Gabriel Luna plays Ray Ballard, the Sleepy-Eyed Strangler. Some official listings call him the Sleepy-Eyed Stranger. Same man. Same job.


His method is the opposite of Stark’s. He does not want the city. He wants the flat. Phillips says Ballard breaks into homes night after night, turns picture frames, moves furniture, leaves things just wrong enough to haunt the people living there. Then he kills them. The waiting is the point. You know someone has been inside. You do not know when they are coming back.

Luna is billed as a guest star, which often means a concentrated run rather than a full-season presence. That can still be enough. The idea is sticky. It is not a puzzle on a billboard. It is the feeling that your own hallway has been claimed.

Luna coming off The Last of Us and other genre work is the kind of casting that tells you they want the character to feel physically real. Not a cartoon. A man who can stand in a doorway and make the room smaller.

Put him next to Stark and you get two different kinds of fear. One is civic. One is domestic. Dexter has chased both types before. He has not had to do it in a city this big, with a son in uniform and a midlife slump sitting on his shoulder.

Brian Cox is Don Framt, the New York Ripper. This one is not new to the story. Dexter found the file in Leon Prater’s vault at the end of Season 1. Wallace and Oliva found it too. The name was the last card the finale put on the table.


Framt is not the active hunter in the same way Stark and Ballard are. He is older. He is in a wheelchair after an accident. He used to work on the subway. He terrorised the city years ago and now he stays famous by ringing survivors. Voice modulator. Dates. Details. Phillips has talked about the gravitas Cox brings to that, the sense that you believe this man did the things attached to his name.

Season 2 is setting Dexter between age brackets. Stark is younger. Framt is older. Ballard is the one who slips through walls. Phillips has said Dexter will have four killers in his life this season. That is a lot of code to keep straight.

Wallace puts Harrison and Fiona on a detail watching the suspected Ripper. So the official investigation and Dexter’s private hunt are going to share pavement. That is the collision the season is built for.

The official logline is blunt. Dexter is caught between two killers. One is notorious. The other is terrorising New York in a way nobody saw coming. At the same time he is fighting a midlife crisis. Harrison is chasing his own version of justice. Father and son are heading into their darkest chapter.

Expect Dexter still working the code in New York rather than Miami. Expect him trying to look ordinary while the city fills up with people who kill for sport or for fame. Expect Harry in his ear, because that voice has never really left. Expect Blessing and the life Dexter borrowed last season to still matter. He said he needed people. Season 2 will test whether he meant it.


The Charley thread is one of the more interesting ones. She walked away from Prater in the finale and left town with her mother. Thurman is back. First-look photos put her with Hall in a way that has already started the romance talk. Whether that is comfort, leverage, or something dumber and more human is for the episodes to decide.

Quinn’s return is fan service with teeth. He knew Dexter in Miami. He is not a tourist in this world. If he is in New York as a lieutenant, the past is not staying in Florida.

Ritter’s Mia is the oddest piece. Lady Vengeance appeared to die in prison last season. Phillips’ answer to how she can return was basically: this is Dexter. Vision, memory, twist, something else.
