Hollywood is mourning the loss of acclaimed screenwriter and biographer William Hasley, whose work helped shape the stories of high-profile public figures, including Caitlyn Jenner. Hasley tragically passed away at the age of 78 after reportedly being identified as the hiker found dead near Runyon Canyon in Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills on June 6. According to the information published on his official biography, William Hasley was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1948 and later attended Marshall University, where he balanced academics with athletics, participating in both football and cross-country running.
Hasley began his professional writing career in animation, working with Hanna-Barbera and Filmation Studio. During this period, he contributed to several popular television programmes, including The Smurfs and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, reports Prime Timer.
He later expanded his portfolio by writing episodes for live-action series such as Swift Justice and The Young Riders. In the bio he highlighted, "If you can’t play pro ball, at least you can imagine it and write about it."
Beyond his work in entertainment, Hasley was also dedicated to mentoring aspiring writers. Beginning in 2004, he served as a screenwriting instructor at UCLA Extension, helping guide the next generation of storytellers.

According to reports, the Los Angeles Fire Department received a call at approximately 6:42 pm on Saturday regarding a hiker suffering from a critical medical emergency. The individual was located in a rugged area off Nichlos Canyon Road near Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood Hills.
Authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation involving more than two dozen firefighters. As the LA City Fire helicopter was deployed to reach the remote location, lowering rescue personnel to the scene. Despite efforts by first responders to provide emergency medical care, the hiker, later identified as William Hasley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
