Are C-drama actors Zhang Jingyi and Song Weilong dating? Love For You stars spark romance rumours as fans turn into detectives

Chinese drama fans may have found their newest favourite ship: Zhang Jingyi and Song Weilong. The Love for You (originally Wild Dog Bones) co-stars have gone from sizzling on-screen as the beloved “Xia Weiyi CP” to sparking romance rumours off-screen too.

Zhang Jingyi, known for Lighter and Princess and Blossoms in Adversity, and Song Weilong of Go Ahead and Shine on Me, became one of the summer’s hottest C-drama pairings after Love for You dropped in July 2026. With their undeniable chemistry and international popularity, fans were quick to wonder if these two are more than just co-stars? And if they are? C-drama may have just found its newest power couple.


Like every good Chinese dating rumour, this one apparently began on Weibo, where fans quickly put on their detective hats. One particular post comparing their schedules for one year went viral, becoming a hot trend on Chinese social media before it ultimately spread on X.

The timeline allegedly begins in December last year, when 27-year-old Zhang Jingyi was filming in Guangdong. Song Weilong, also 27, has reportedly never been a big fan of Guangdong’s humid weather and usually struggles to adjust to the climate. Yet, fans noticed that he suddenly began making monthly trips to the province. Around the same time, Zhang reportedly stopped staying in hotels and started renting accommodation outside instead. Coincidence? Fans, naturally, are not so sure.

Then came April, when Zhang wrapped filming and took around half a month off. She later revealed in interviews that she spent the break at home, but fans noticed that she wasn't in Beijing, where she owns a home, or in her hometown of Hunan. Instead, she was reportedly in Hangzhou. And guess who also happens to own a home there? Song Weilong, who was reportedly in Hangzhou for roughly the same half-month period.


By May, the detective board had even more pins on it. Zhang started filming another drama in Guangdong, and Song was once again spotted making his now-familiar monthly trips to the province. Then, as Love For You entered its advanced episodes in July, Song was in Hong Kong for an event. Fans claim he was subsequently spotted making a quick trip through Shenzhen Bay and into mainland China, where Zhang was filming. One might call it a business trip. Fans, however, had other theories.

The schedule sleuthing continued into August and September. After Zhang finished filming, both actors' schedules seemingly went quiet before reappearing around the same time, with the two reportedly ending up in the same city on two occasions. Things got even more eyebrow-raising in September, when both allegedly had around 10 days of leave at the beginning of the month before separately heading to Europe for fashion week events.

And then there are the promotional-event moments that fans have been replaying like evidence in a courtroom. Among them was Song apparently being able to unlock Zhang's phone, which fans took as a particularly interesting detail because, well, knowing someone's phone password is not exactly giving “random co-star” energy.


The rumours that originated on Chinese social media eventually landed on X, where international fans had divided reactions to share.

Many are enthusiastically rooting for the pairing, with one fan expressing hope that their bond remains strong: "Let's hope we still get an interaction. I don't want anything to spoil their bond. I loved them together." Another fan admitted, "I didn't want to watch their drama bc the plot wasn't for me but I like both of them and it would be cool if they were dating so this is filling my delulu to the point of considering watching their drama."

Others are waiting for confirmation, as one fan commented, "I'm secretly rooting for it, but waiting for the studio to update with more details." Meanwhile, some netizens are overwhelmed by the complexity of the evidence, with one asking, "Are the rumours on Xiaohongshu that Wei Gou and Zhang Jingyi are dating actually true? My IQ is not enough to understand all this. I desperately need a 'for lazy people' summary."

Despite all the fan detective work, neither Zhang Jingyi nor Song Weilong’s studios have confirmed the dating rumours. For now, fans are simply connecting the dots from their schedules, travels and cute promotional moments.


With their drama promotions now over, the two have gone their separate ways, with Zhang heading to London Fashion Week and Song to Milan. So, are they actually dating, or is this just another case of fandom detectives getting carried away or actors feeding their delusion for promotional purposes? Until there’s some real confirmation, nobody knows for sure.
